Personal Overview

I have a research background in veterinary medicine and in pharmacology and toxicology with research experience in neuroscience, molecular pharmacology and in animal models of health and disease. This includes experience in both vertebrate (avian models of disease) and invertebrate (planaria) species. The overarching aim of my current research is to better understand the behavioural, neurochemical and neuropharmacological mechanisms underlying learning and addiction, with a particular focus on developing pharmacological means of controlling addictive behaviour. This includes addictions to drugs such as nicotine and also to everyday substances such as sucrose. A key goal of my work is to develop pre-clinical model of addiction with real life applications in areas such as food intake and obesity.
